Finland to provide Rs 1.85 billion aid to water and sanitation

KATHMANDU:

The Finland government has agreed to provide a grant assistance worth Rs. 1.85 billion to Nepal for the implementation of Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project in Western Nepal (RWSSP WNII).

An agreement to this effect was signed by Ambassador of Finland to Nepal Asko Luukkainen and the MoF Joint Secretary Madhu Kumar Marasini at a programme held at the Ministry of Finance (MoF) on Monday.

The objective of the project (RWSSP WN II) is to continue to improve health, socio-economic status and fulfillment of the equal access to water and sanitation for the inhabitants of the project area.

Initially, the five-year-project will be implemented in nine districts of Mid-western and Western Nepal -- Pyuthan, Myagdi, Parbat, Syangja, Tanahu, Kapilvastu, Rupandehi and Nawalparasi. The project will also be gradually extended to Gulmi, MoF said. The Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development has been assigned with implementing the project at the local level.

Addressing Monday’s function at the MoF, Joint Secretary Marasini expressed sincere gratitude to the Finland government for assistance and continued support in the socio-economic development of Nepal.
