Finance Secretary Shanta Raj Subedi has expressed concern over increasing complaints about the practice of under billing of products to evade customs duty at Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA).

Conducting a surprise inspection at the sole international airport customs office in the country on Wednesday, Subedi instructed the concerned officials to conduct valuation in a realistic way so as to minimize revenue leakage. He also asked the officials to do their level best to beet the revenue collection target.

Similarly, the finance secretary also urged customs officials not to create unnecessary hassles to overseas returnees, keep vigil on smuggling of foreign currencies, conduct timely auctioning of confiscated goods, and forge effective coordination among line agencies in checking customs revenue leakage.
