Fin Min hails change‚ bats for entrepreneurship development
KATHMANDU:
Positive changes have surfaced on the front of entrepreneurship development. While politicisation had been a major hindering factor until recently, things have started to change with migrant returnees contributing to change the mindset of our society gradually, according to Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat.
Speaking during the programme organised by the Society of Economic Journalists Nepal (SEJON) on its 17th anniversary in the Capital, Minister Mahat informed that migrant returnees have been setting up their own business, either in agriculture, micro or cottage industry and that it has been the catalyst for change in the society.
Mahat also stressed that the country should reap the benefits from the investment commitment of $11 billion made by foreign companies and development partners in the energy sector.
He further said the efforts made by government to implement mega infrastructure projects, private sector setting up employment-intensive businesses and people adopting entrepreneurial skills will help the economy march forward. “People will be able to see the tangible changes in economic development very soon,” he assertedChiranjibi Nepal, economic advisor to the prime minister, stressed on the need to identify constraints to economic growth and expressed hope that the government’s recently announced reform initiative will attain success in this regard.
Similarly, National Planning Commission (NPC) Member Chandra Mani Adhikari stated that the economic journalists have crucial role in economic development of the country.
Likewise, Pradeep Jung Pandey, president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) sought early submission of financial and industry-related Bills in the parliament to expedite the reform process. “Reforms are needed on the administrative front as well to cope with lengthy and process-oriented bureaucratic hurdles,” he said.
Four journalists bag ‘SEJON Award’
Four economic journalists bagged ‘SEJON Award’ during SEJON’s 17th anniversary on Monday for their comprehensive news coverage over the past year. Journalists Raju Chaudhary from Kantipur Daily, Sujan Oli from Nagarik Daily, Himal Poudel from Image Channel Television and Bhagawat Bhattarai from Mountain Television received the awards. To encourage journalists engaged in print and electronic media, who report on economic issues of the country, SEJON has been providing the award since last five years.
