Fifth Global NRN Conference from Oct 12-14

More than 700 Non-Resident Nepalis (NRNs) are expected to take part in the Fifth Global NRN Conference to be held in Kathmandu through October 12-14 under the theme ‘Our Network-Our Identity: Prosperous Nepal’. The conference, which is organised every two years, will also elect a new executive committee of the NRN International Coordination Council (ICC).

Deb Man Hirachan and Jiba Lamichhane, incumbent president and vice-president of NRN ICC, respectively, have already said they will contest for presidency, while Bhawan Bhatta from Japan has announced his candidacy for the post of treasurer.

On Friday, the government held a meeting of the high-level organising committee of the conference. The government has been one of the organisers of the event being organised since 2003.

The conference will have discussions and deliberations on perception and vision of political leaders and civil society in building prosperous Nepal, role of NRNs in disaster preparedness, participation of women, second generation NRN in the NRN movement, opportunities and challenges in attracting foreign investment, making employment safe and honourable for Nepali migrant workers in the Middle East, legal, administrative and financial issues in NRNA, among others.
