Farmers demand budget up by 10 percent in agriculture

KATHMANDU, May 24:
Farmers all over the nation have demanded government to allocate at least 25 percent of the total budget in agriculture sector, while warning of protest if government fails to meet their demand .
National Farmer Group Federation Chairman Uddab Adhikari said the increment of the budget in development of the rural agricultural sectors is essential . The government this time should increase budget from earlier 15 percent to 25 percent.
“Despite increment in fund the government is planning to lower the budget in agriculture field, this will be intolerable. If this happens our federation with farmers from all 75 districts will be called for protest in Kathmandu.” warned Adhikari .
Minister for Agriculture, Hari Parajuli said that he would try his best to increase the budget by 10 percent to include the landless and marginalized farmers in agriculture.
According to Parajuli identity cards to landless farmers will be given soon and the fund also will be increased in comparison to previous years.
“Budget allocated to VDCs would not be continued to just 15 percent and agriculture insurance policy is also getting amended from which farmers can ease themselves” he said.
