Export sector says some expectations have been met

The budget for fiscal year 2013-14 has roughly met the expectations of the private sector players, states the private sector.

“There are issues that have finally received the government’s approval but it could have included many more issues that we were waiting for,” said experts from the private sector.

According to them, the points mentioned in the budget are still unclear and they are not sure whether they will be implemented.

Meanwhile, president of Federation of Handicraft Associations of Nepal (FHAN) Hem Ratna Shakya expressed his satisfaction over the budget that has mentioned the establishment of a cottage industry exhibition and sale hall for its promotion.

“The budget has also assured about the development of SAARC Handicraft Development Centre which is quite appreciable,” Shakya added.

The budget also mentions about facilitating the development of a handicraft village in all the five development regions. It has also facilitated land at Chobar for the construction of an international standard Industrial and Trade Exhibition Hall.

The budget has also allotted necessary amount of fund for the construction of a dry port in Chobar.

The budget has assured to facilitate the trademark registration process of Nepali pashmina. However, president of Nepal Pashmina Industries Association Pushpa Man Shrestha said though the budget has mentioned about facilitating trademark registration process in Brazil, South Africa, Russia, China and the UAE, they are still not assured about it.

According to him, the association has already received financial assistance of Rs two million for completing the registration process in the remaining countries.

The budget has also mentioned about giving continuity to brand registration of tea and coffee in the international market and developing trademark of carpet, large cardamom and ginger. It also mentions about doubling the budget for the promotion, development, and marketing of products in the Nepal Trade Integration Strategy 2010.
