Eligibility criterion for NRN revised

KATHMANDU:

From now on, only those people of Nepali origin living abroad for more than two years will be recognised as a Non Resident Nepali (NRN).

The Non-Resident Nepali International Convention has revised the NRN Association (NRNA) Charter to consider only those Nepalis who are living abroad for more than two years as NRNs from the existing provision of six months.

The NRN Act 2008 had recognised foreign citizens of Nepali origin residing abroad except in SAARC member countries for more than two years as NRNs. However, according to NRNA Charter, Nepali citizens living abroad for more than 182 days were considered NRNs. This clash regarding eligibility of an NRN had prevented NRNA to be registered in Nepal.

“Since we have revised the impending clause, we will soon be registered in Nepal as an association,” informed president of NRN International Coordination Committee Jiba Lamichhane.

The NRN International Convention and Sixth Global Conference will take place in Kathmandu from October 19 to 22.

The international convention will be held in first two days that will see the election of a new executive committee for NRN-ICC.
