DROP IN NEPSE CONTINUES

Following the yesterday’s downfall, Nepal Stock Exchange today also plummeted by 3.4 points. The market index from the beginning of the trade was below the yesterday’s level . Though the local bourse tried to bounce back from 528 levels as it remain stagnate at this level for the most part of the first hour, later the selling pressure in the Banking, Hydro and Others sector’s scrips dragged down the level to the lowest of 522 levels. But the bounce back in all three sectors in the end of the trade helped the Nepse to close at 525.46 levels

In spite of descent in the level of Nepse, the positive news was the participation in the market. The turnover today stood around Rs 63,623,039 which is higher by Rs 27,020,396 or 73.82% higher than yesterday and the numbers of shares traded also climbed as it totaled around 167,262 units which were carried through 929 transactions. The market capitalization at the end of the day tallied around Rs 506,216.90 million.

Among the sub-indices, Hydro sector suffered the loss today as it declined by 4.11 points; the drop in Arun Valley Hydropower Development Company Limited (AHPC) and Chilime Hydro power Co. (CHCL) mainly pulled the sector down. Similarly, the plummet in the price of Nepal Doorsanchar Company Limited (NTC) by Rs 7 push the Other sector further down in the red zone by 7.05 points.

Whereas, Banking, Development and Finance suffered the loss of 4.01, 0.07 and 0.09 points respectively. Under Banking today, Nepal Bank Ltd (NBL), closed at Rs 1166, which has been in continuous surge since the day of listing i.e. in 17th Dec, 2012, today plummeted by Rs 129 or 9.96% making it the highest loser for the day. After the NBL got relisted in the market, it firstly traded in the OTC market over the Rs 200 range then only later in the secondary market; it started trading was between the range of Rs 380 to Rs 395 per unit.  After this, the scrip never looked back as for continuous 15 trading days it just kept moving upward to make a high of Rs 1,321. The main reason for the boost in the scrip is the company’s plan to issue 1:9.5 right shares to its shareholders in the near future to increase its capital base.
 
As for Insurance it sustained in the green area as it increased by 5.7 points. Among the 10 scrips traded under it, Nepal Life Insurance Co. Ltd. (NLICL) and Himalayan Gen. Insu. Co. Ltd. (HGIL) were only the scrips that declined whereas Sagarmatha Insurance Co. Ltd (SICL), Life Insurance Co. Nepal (LICN) and Asian Life Insurance Co. Limited (ALICL) increased more than Rs 10 today. While Hotels sector remains intact at 593.57 levels.

Overall there were only 72 scrips traded among which 21 scrips increased, 8 remain intact and 43 scrips decreased. The highest gainer for the day was Asian Life Insurance Co. Limited (ALICL), closed at Rs 239, with Rs 11 or 4.82%. In case of highest share traded, Janata Bank Nepal Ltd. (JBL), closed at Rs 170, topped with 19,212 units.

In terms of highest turnover, Bank of Kathmandu (BOK), closed at Rs 690, topped with 9,873 units worth Rs 6,852,181 via 57 transactions; in which Broker no 50 (Crystal Kanchanjungha Securities Pvt. Ltd.) was the most active Broker with 24.48% stand alone dealing of BOK, tallying, 2,428 units worth Rs 1,677,670 via 18 transactions which includes 1 matching transactions of  119 units worth Rs 82,110.
