DRI set to tighten customs

Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI) is preparing to tighten customs points during the festival season, according to director general Shanta Bahadur Shrestha.
The department is committed to stop non-filer import along with import from informal channel, he said, adding that it will carry out several activities to check the customs points. The High Level Revenue Leakages Control Panel that was formed to control revenue leakages will inspect different customs points and take appropriate action to control all sort of revenue leakages, he said, adding that the panel will monitor local customs points in two weeks. Customs Department had decided to implement abbreviated customs declaration forms to control revenue leakages from local customs points. The panel will monitor the progress of implementation of the forms too, Shrestha informed.
Meanwhile, the department is also preparing different models to mobilise Flying Squad in the different parts of country. It had decided to review the working procedure of Flying Squad after its activities were protested in various parts.
The department is discussing three different modalities — according to the complaints, or in coordination with other government agencies or in its existing form — to deploy Flying Squad, he informed. The decision of Department of Revenue Investigation has come at a time when Finance Ministry has decided to accelerate the activities to control revenue leakages.
Revenue Leakages Control Committee had recently decided to mobilise CDO from 17 bordering districts to check leakages.
