DRI gets nod to file case

KATHMANDU,JUNE 14: 

Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI) has said that it will file a case against eight firms and five persons involved in the misappropriation of Indian currency (IC) within a few days. 

The District Government Attorney Office, Parsa, provided a go-ahead to DRI to file a case against all the firms and persons involved in IC misappropriation, said deputy director general of DRI Rajendra Sharma Laudari, adding that the department has started the process to file a case at Parsa District Court. 

The department will file the case at Parsa District Court only, even though the IC misappropriation scandal took place in Butwal and Bhaktapur districts too, Laudari said.

Some firms have been found to be non-filers which has created problems in filing a case, he said. “Some busted persons are also guilty because they were involved as carriers.” 

DRI has expected to collect about IRs 1.24 billion from the case against the eight firms along with a fine equal to that amount. 

However, DRI officials said that the department will not be able to collect the expected amount. “All the responsible persons of the concerned firms have been absconding from the moment their firms came under scanner,” an official said, adding that the department will file a case against firms but will not be able to collect the revenue.
