Dr. Rewat Bahadur Karki has been appointed as chairperson of SEBON

Dr. Rewat Bahadu Karki has been appointed as the chairperson of Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON). The meeting of the council of ministers held today, has appointed Dr. Karki as a chairperson of SEBON for coming four years. Dr. Karki is considered as an expert for capital market, financial market and entire economy. Dr. Karki is an ex employee of Nepal Rastra Bank and has also been Managing director of Nepal Stcok Exchange Limited (NEPSE). At present, he is the chairman of the Rastra Banijya Bank and also the expert director of the board. A recommendation panel led by Dr. Swornim Wagle, a member of National Planning Commission had forwarded three names for the post of chairperson of SEBON. The name of Dr. Rewat Bahadur Karki, Niraj Giri and Dr. Danapani Poudel were recommended. Profile of Dr. Rewat Bahadur Karki (Ph.D)  Academic Qualification: Dr. Rewat Bahadur Karki holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Magadha University, Bodhgaya, India, and M.A. in Economics from Tribhuvan University, Nepal, also a law graduate from Tribhuvan University. Professional Experience: Dr. Karki has expertise in the field of Macroeconomics, Banking & capital markets. He has been working as an Economist/Banking & Capital Market Expert (freelance). He has national and international experience of working in different capacities in the banking (financial sector), and other several financial institutions including development sectors. Dr. Karki former CEO (2006-2008) of Nepal Stock Exchange Ltd. (NEPSE), has worked for more than 25 years at Nepal Rastra Bank, the Central Bank of Nepal in different capacities including as Economic Advisor in the Reseach Department and Director in the Banking and Financial Institutions Regulation Dept. He has also worked as Executive Director (1995-1998) in Mid Western Rural Development Bank of Nepal. Internationally, Dr. Karki served as an Economic Advisor to Executive Director (2002-2005) at International Monetary Fund (IMF), Washington D.C. USA, and also as an Economist (1992-1994), Bank of Namibia, Namibia. Dr. Karki has also worked as Director to Different Boards. Currently he is in Board of Directors as Expert Member of Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON). As a Board of Directors, he was involved in different financial institutions: NABIL Investment Banking Ltd., Nepal Citizen Investment Fund, Nepal Stock Exchange Ltd., and Credit Information Bureau including Mid Western, and Far Western Grameen Bikas Banks. Dr. Karki, who is also Chief Editor to “Arthik Sangalo (Eco Magazine) Annual” and “News Bulletin Half Yearly” of Nepal Rastra Bank Ex-employees Association has several articles and publications on economic, financial and budgetary issues including banking and micro finance in different economic papers and journals to his credit. Dr. Karki has also worked as resource person in different national & international conferences, seminars, trainings in addition to his participation in numerous national & international conferences, seminar and trainings organized by IMF, World Bank, US Securities & Exchange, SAFE, Southeast Asian Central Banks (SEACEN) Research and Training Center, Swiss National Bank, Grameen Bank Bangladesh etc.
