KATHMANDU:

Normal life in the Capital has been crippled due to a double bandh enforced by 30-party alliance led by UCPN-Maoist and Mohan Baidhya-led CPN-Maoist on Tuesday.

The 30-party alliance called the bandh to exert pressure on the ruling parties to draft a new constitution through consensus.

Likewise, the Baidhya-led CPN-Maoist enforced bandh demanding an all-party political conference to promulgate the constitution.

Short and long route vehicles stayed off the roads. Vehicles belonging to hospital, press and other emergency services have however been allowed to run without any obstruction.

Academic institutions, market areas, factories, industries and some offices stayed shut due to fear of violence.

Bandh enforcers gathered in almost all major chowks of the city to make the strike successful.

Personnel from Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have been deployed at main hubs in the capital to foil the strike since early morning.

Police have arrested a dozen of bandh enforcers from various parts of the Capital.
