Discounts, launches galore

When it’s about fair, it certainly is about new launchings, discount offers and schemes. And, the 20th edition of CAN InfoTech 2014, being held from January 2-7 at Exhibition Hall, Bhrikutimandap, is no exception.

Several companies are offering lucrative schemes to entice buyers during the six-day IT extravaganza. Organised by the Computer Association of Nepal (CAN), the event features 221 stalls.

Sudhir Parajuli, chief executive officer of Subisu Cable Net, said the company will launch various services at the event, including fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) services for residential users. The service so far is limited to corporate users only. The company is also providing special package for cable modem buyers. Priced at Rs 4,999, the cable modem purchasers will get facilities like free three-month 512 kbps internet, free installation and free cable TV modem.

“We are also planning to launch IPTV in the domestic market, which we will be showcased during the event,” said Parajuli. “We have already applied for the license for this technology and we are on track to launch the service the very next day of acquiring the approval.” Viewers can watch TV through internet using IPTV.  

International Marketing Services (IMS), the sole authorised distributor of Samsung mobiles in Nepal, too is offering lucrative offers. IMS President Dikesh Malhotra said the company will be offering gifts and special discounts during the expo. The company will be displaying all Samsung models launched in the domestic market so far. Besides, IMS will launch the latest Samsung S Duos 2, which will be priced at Rs 18,500. Samsung accessories will also be displaying at the expo. “The expo will also feature consultants who will inform customers about the features of Samsung phones,” said Malhotra.

“CAN Info-Tech is the biggest IT exhibition in the country, attracting huge masses. The expo is a great platform for showcasing new products. And this year too, our focus will remain on the same,” said Sanjay Golchha, managing director of Neoteric Nepal, the authorised seller of products from brands like Nokia, Dell and HP, among others.

Golchha said the company will mainly focus on touch-screen and convertible laptops, and Windows-based smartphones. The company is also launching a tablet under its own brand name — Neo. “Neo branded tablets

have been designed especially for the Nepali market,”

said Golchha. “While the hardware is made in collaboration with a Taiwanese

company, the device incorporates software suiting local conditions.”

The new Neo tablet comes in WIFI only and WiFi+3G versions. The WiFi only device will be available at Rs 6,999. Neoteric Nepal will also focus on smartphones running Windows OS.

Nagmani International, the authorised seller of Asus products, is offering a 5-10 percent discount on all its product ranges. Besides, the company will take pictures of all of its laptop buyers during the expo and post them on Facebook. The picture getting highest number of likes will be refunded Rs 10,000. “This will be a fun-filled experience for the visitors,” said Amulya Gurung of Nagmani International.

Nepa Hima Trade Links, the authorised sellers of Sony products, is running special offers. “We are offering discounts on products starting from 7-8 percent,” said Binil Bajracharya, general manager at Nepa Hima.

The company is offering accessories like memory cards and batteries, among others, for free for its customers during the expo.     

The expo is supported by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment; Ministry of Information and Communi- cation; IT Department ; Nepal Telecommunications Authority; FNCCI and Nepal Chamber of Commerce.
