Dhakal, Neupane vie for CAN Federation presidency

KATHMANDU, Feb 26:

Two separate panels are vying for leadership in the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Computer Association of Nepal (CAN) to be held on February 28.

Binod Dhakal, president of CAN and Narayan Neupane, second vice president of CAN are leading their respective panels for election of the new executive committee. Both the panels have unveiled the common agenda of institutional development and expansion of CAN.

From Dhakal´s panel, Hemanta Chaurasia, Bishwo Balami, Ranit Poddar, Sunaina Pandey and Arun Bansal are vying for institutional members and Birendra Bajracharya and Sandesh Gopal Nyacchon for institutional members.

Likewise, those vying for members are Bhim Dhoj Shrestha, Rom Kanta Pandey, Khusal Regmi, Reg Bahadur Bhandari and Abhijeet Gupta. Hempal Shrestha and Pawan Kumar Sharma have fielded their candidacy for individual lifetime member.

Dhakal has proposed improvement and implementation of Information and Technology policy, minimization of the digital divide, professional development and security, establishment of relationship with national and international IT organizations and development of ICT as an industry.

Similarly, from Neupane´s panel Dipak Bhandari, Naresh Shrestha, Sharmila Bhujel, Sushil KC and Kapil Babu Panta are vying for institutional members and Bikram Singh as life time institutional members.

The individual members comprises of Chandra Bilas Bhurtel, Gyanu Raja Maharajan, Khagendra Shrestha, Sundar Neupane and Krishna Parsad Acharya . Trishakti Sundar Joshi and Amit Agrawal have submitted their candidacy for individual lifetime members.

Neupane has proposed enhancing the CAN federation secretariat, constructing building and developing infrastructure, e - library, and making CAN website more effective and interactive.

Similarly, he has also proposed increasing the number of CAN federation members, enhancing the role and visibility of CAN Federation in the national and international sectors, establishing research and development unit, creating opportunities for youth and business start-up in the field of IT and establishing Nepal as alternative destination for IT.
