Development of 16 hydropower projects along the Tamor River underway
Taplejung district has seen significant investment in hydropower projects along the Tamor River, its primary waterway, as well as other rivers. Officials have reported that there are currently 16 hydroelectric projects underway along the Tamor River, with an anticipated power generation capacity of 1,654.51 megawatts.
The Department of Electricity Development has specified that 14 of these projects are located exclusively within Phaktanglung Rural Municipality, while the remaining two are situated in other local areas.
Additionally, four hydropower projects are in progress along the Mewakhola River, flowing through Mikwakhola Rural Municipality, with an expected power output of 178.42 megawatts. Furthermore, the Department has noted that four projects are in development along the Kabeli River, projected to generate 95.43 megawatts of power.
