DESPITE HIGH TURNOVER, NEPSE TUMBLES

Following the turnover worth more than Rs 160 million of yesterday, the market today also made a hefty transaction as the total turnover stood at Rs 157,607,729. This back to back turnover worth more than Rs 150 million suggest a healthy participation of the investors in the market which is a very good sign for the overall secondary market of Nepal.

Despite the high turnover, the market index today also plummeted by 0.36 points to close at 541.19 levels. In recent days, the volatility in the market has come down a notch, today also the local bourse moved within the 3 point range between 540 to 543 levels suggesting the presence of caution investors in the market.

Among the sub-indices, Hotels moved up by the highest point of 8.13 following the increment in the value of Soaltee Hotel Ltd. (SHL) by Rs 5. Likewise, the ascendency in the price of Grand Bank Nepal Ltd. (Grand), Himalayan Bank Ltd. (HBL) and Nepal SBI Bank Limited (NSBI) by Rs 19, Rs 16 and Rs 13 respectively pushed the sector up by 1.5 points. Similarly, the news of 5% bonus share proposed by Nepal Credit And Com. Bank (NCC) propelled the scrip price by Rs 3 today. As for, Development and Finance also uplifted by 0.58 and 1.65 points respectively.

While, Hydro and Others plunged by 3.18 and 10.58 points respectively. The fall in Chilime Hydro power Co. (CHCL) by Rs 6 mainly contributed to the Hydro sector downfall whereas, the descent in the price of Nepal Doorsanchar Company Limited (NTC) by Rs 9 further pushed the Others sector south today.

In the same manner, Insurance sector also suffered a loss of 8.05 points following the decrease in the level of National Life Insu. Co. Ltd. (NLICL), Nepal Life Insurance Co. Ltd. (NLIC) and Sagarmatha Insurance Co. Ltd (SIC) by Rs 25, Rs 20 and Rs 25 respectively. In other news, the BOD meeting of NLICL has decided to conduct its AGM on 1st April, 2013 and it has also published 14th March, 2013 as the date of Book closure for AGM and 25 % Bonus share to its shareholders.

Overall, there were share trades of 584,811 units via 1,875 transactions belonging to 79 scrips among which 32 scrips increased 14 remained intact and 33 scrips decreased. The highest gainer for the day was, Vibor Bikas Bank Limited (VBBL), closed at Rs 91, with Rs 8 or 9.64% gain. Whereas, Biratlaxmi Bikash Bank Limited  (BLDBL), closed at Rs 120, was the highest loser with Rs 16 or 11.76% loss.

In terms of highest share traded, Civil Bank Ltd (CBL), closed at Rs 168, topped with 130,359 units. In case of highest turnover, Nepal Bangladesh Bank (NBB), closed at Rs 350, today also topped with 87,863 share units worth Rs 31,066,972 via 217 transactions; in which Broker no 14 (Nepal Stock House Pvt. Limited) was the most active Broker with 18.42% stand alone dealing of NBB, tallying 16,220 units worth Rs 5,721,990 via 31 transactions which includes 2 matching transactions totaling 4000 units worth Rs 1,412,000.
