The Department of Passport is temporarily suspending regular services to upgrade to a new passport system. Passport services at local district offices, area offices, and embassies abroad will be paused for three days from July 8 to July 10, 2026. The central department in Kathmandu will halt its application services for two days, specifically on July 9 and July 10, 2026. Regular services under the new system will fully launch on July 13, 2026.

However, passport collection will remain open during this transition. If you have already received an SMS notification stating your passport is ready, you can still visit the department to pick it up.
