Denmark to support farm commercialization in eastern Nepal

KATHMANDU, May 13 :
Danish Embassy in Kathmandu has signed agreement with the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development to support infrastructure development in seven districts in eastern hills for supporting smallholder farmers to take their products to markets.
Danish Ambassador to Nepal Kirsten Geelan signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with officials of the two ministries in Dhankuta for infrastructure component of UNNATI Program.
UNNATI is a new inclusive growth program supporting the commercialization of value chains in eastern Nepal. The program with total budget of US$ 70 million started in December, 2013 with support of the Danish Embassy in Katmandu.
About half of the total budget, or $35 million, has been earmarked for infrastructure projects in Ilam, Panchthar, Taplejung, Dhankuta, Bhojpur, Terhathum and Sankhuwasabha districts. The project will remove infrastructural obstacles for the commercialization of agriculture in eastern Nepal by constructing agricultural roads.
