Debt Recovery Tribunal to recover millions from defaulters of six BFIs

The Debt Recovery Tribunal (DBT) has issued around two dozen 7-day notices today itself asking long-time loan defaulters of six different BFIs, warning to initiate action against them if they do not repay the loans within a week.
It is an encouraging development at a time the tribunal has been criticized for not being able to help the BFIs recover loan mainly due to delay in appointment of officer bearers of the tribunal since December.
It is even more encouraging for the BFIs as well as their shareholders since the tribunal has finally decided to recover millions of rupees from the defaulters within seven days or by auctioning their assets if they fail to repay within a week. This will only further improve the financial health of the concerned banks.
Out of the total 240 cases pending at the tribunal, 31 were filed in the current fiscal year 2070/71 while remaining cases are from the last fiscal year. Some of the major cases have been covered in today’s notices.
