DDC to import powdered milk from Uganda

KATHMANDU, June 3: The Dairy Development Corporation (DDC) is all set to purchase 300 tons of powdered milk from Uganda.
DDC took the decision after Pearl Dairy of Uganda won the state-owned dairy producer´s global tender to supply powdered milk.
This is the first time that DDC is purchasing milk from Africa. So far it had been purchasing powdered milk directly from India.
"Pearl´s bid is attractive both in terms of price and quality," Ganga Timsina, acting general manager of DDC told Republica, adding "We will begin the process of importing 300 tons of powdered milk after completing necessary documentation process."
The purchasing cost stands at around Rs 120 million.
"We were compelled to announced tender to purchase powdered milk as local production alone is insufficient to meet demand during peak season," Timsina said.
DDC has been producing around three tons of powdered milk on a daily basis from its Biratnagar-based plant.
