DDC Begins Exporting Butter (Ghee) to Middle East with Initial Shipment to Dubai

The state owned Dairy Development Corporation (DDC) of Nepal has officially started exporting its butter oil (ghee) to countries in the Middle East. The initiative began on Friday with a initial shipment of 500 kilograms sent to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, aboard a Nepal Airlines flight.

To handle sales in the region, DDC signed a business agreement with a private company, Rato Ra Chandra Surya International Private Limited. According to DDC General Manager Dr. Sharan Pandey, an agreement has been finalized to supply a total of 50,000 kilograms (50 metric tons) of ghee per year to Middle Eastern markets.

The export volume for the first year was set at 50 tons due to current domestic production limits. However, the organization plans to increase shipment quantities as production grows. Shipments are expected to take place on a weekly basis depending on market demand.

DDC is also expanding its reach to other international markets. Starting around October, the organization plans to expand its exports to Japan, South Korea, and the Tibet region of China.
