Dashain bazaar to open from today
KATHMANDU:
The government is opening Dashain bazaars in seven places of Kathmandu Valley from Friday to provide consumer goods in subsidised rates.
“Five basic items – rice, sugar, salt, ghee and meat – will be sold in subsidised rates in Dashain bazzars,” said spokesperson of Ministry of Commerce and Supply Ganesh Prasad Dhakal.
According to Department of Commerce, the government sponsored Dashain bazzars will be opened at Ram Shah Path, Kalimati, Thapathali, Koteshwor in Kathmandu and Pulchowk in Lalitpur Sub-metropolis and Bhakatapur district from Friday till Chhatha.
“The government is also starting five mobile shops to reach out to the suburban areas,” said director general of the department Anil Kumar Thakur.
The Immediate Relief Package 2068 announced by the Prime Minister Dr baburam Bhattarai has spelt of the relief during festive season.
“It is the first time the government is selling essential goods in discount price to provide relief to people,” Dhakal said, adding that the state entities – National Trading, Salt Trading, Dairy Development and Nepal Food Corporation — are providing discount in their products. “They will provide around five to 10 per cent discount,” he added.
Nepal Food Corporation (NFC) is planning to discount Rs 2 to Rs 10 per kg on rice and Rs 10 per kg on live goat. National Trading and Salt Trading will sell salt and sugar with Rs 2 and Rs 5 discount, respectively. Dairy Development Corporation is providing Rs 10 discount in a kg of ghee.
Likewise, National Trading is providing 10 per cent discount in home appliances like gas stoves, cookers, cups and others.
“Discounts are based on current market price and applicable in outside Kathmandu Valley too,” Dhakal said, adding that the ministry has directed District Administration Offices across the country to open Dashain bazzars in the districts too.
Likewise, the department has extended its support to cooperative shops to reach to people living in outskirts. The state corporations are providing subsidised food items to 10 cooperatives shops.'
