Customs Exemption for Returning Workers with Labor Permit Bringing Televisions

The Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) Customs Office has clarified the customs exemption, stating that foreign workers affiliated with the Social Security Fund will receive a discount on one television of any size and price when returning after working abroad for more than one year with a labor permit.
According to the notice issued by the airport customs office, workers who have worked continuously for 12 months with a labor permit and are also listed in the Social Security Fund will be eligible for a customs exemption on any size or type of television they bring back with them.
However, for workers who have worked for 12 consecutive months with a work permit but are not listed in the social security fund, they can only bring a television up to 32 inches without paying customs duty. In all other cases, regular customs duties will apply as per the rules at the customs office.
The notification also covers the customs duty on gold jewelry. Women returning to Nepal from abroad can bring gold jewelry weighing up to 50 grams without being charged customs duty, while men can bring up to 25 grams. Gold jewelry weighing up to 200 grams can be brought into the country by paying the appropriate customs duty.
Regarding mobile phones, Nepali travelers returning from abroad can bring their mobile phones without being charged customs. However, for travelers who have worked abroad for more than 6 consecutive months with a work permit, they are allowed to bring one additional mobile phone without paying customs duty. In all cases, these mobile phones must be declared at the customs office, and the necessary customs procedures must be completed.
Overall, these customs exemptions and discounts aim to facilitate returning workers with labor permits and acknowledge their contributions while adhering to the applicable regulations.
