Customers valuables safe: Nepal Bank Limited

Despite a massive fire engulfing the Kantipath branch, Nepal Bank Ltd (NBL) has assured that customer valuables lodged at the bank’s lockers have not been damaged and are intact.

The bank has also shifted its Kantipath branch to its head office at New Road after the fire destroyed the branch this morning.

“Fortunately, only furniture, computers and other such items were damaged. We are able to undertake banking activities of this particular branch from the head office, and we have backed up all the documents,” said coordinator of the management team at NBL Maheshwor Lal Shrestha. The bank’s branch located at Jyoti Bhawan, in Kantipath, caught fire at around eight in the morning.

“There has been no damage to the vaults, so cash and precious metals in the branch are safe,” pointed out Shrestha. This particular branch handles about Rs 930 million worth of loans and houses 700 lockers.

“The fire did not affect the lockers and valuables inside them,” said Shrestha. “But since we cannot move the lockers, customers who want to access the lockers have to visit the same branch. We have kept the branch open for the purpose,” he added.

According to Shrestha, the bank’s vault had Rs 250 million cash and collateralised precious metals worth a similar amount.
