COVID-19: 95% infected in Nepal do not show symptoms; Globally 80% infected persons are without coronavirus symptoms

Most of the coronavirus infected are found to have not shown the symptoms of the virus. Usually, sneezing, cough, fever, short of breath and fatigue are the symptoms of a person carrying the virus.

Epidemiology and Communicable Disease Control Division Director Basudev Pandey shared that 95 percent of the infected in Nepal are not found with the COVID-19 symptoms. Globally 80 percent COVID-19 infected persons are without coronavirus symptoms.

Dr Pandey informed that many of the patients were found infected in course of the coronavirus test but their condition is like that of normal people. He further shared the infection may have emerged without showing its proper symptoms because of delayed test, emergence of mild virus in Nepal and higher resisting power of Nepali people. "The coronavirus is detected among human being within 14 days but we have also carried out test after 14 days", he said, adding the suspects may not show the symptoms when the tests are done following 14 days.

Among the coronavirus infected, five percent however are the patients of heart disease, high blood pressure and asthma.

Likewise, Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital Director Dr Sagar Raj Bhandari said the patients visiting the hospital of late are not detected with coronavirus symptoms however the suspects from outside coming to the hospital in the beginning were found with its features.

Epidemiology Division Director Dr Pandey said the returnees coming from India and third countries could be saved from dengue and malaria if they are kept in well-facilitated quarantines.

As many as 2,634 people have so far tested positive for coronavirus in Nepal. 10 among them have lost their lives and 278 infected have returned home after recovery. The infection has reached to the 64 districts of Nepal.

Among the mostly affected are youths in Nepal. As many as 713 youths at the age group of 15-24 are found to have contracted the virus followed by 562 in the age group 25-34. Presently 155,868 people are kept in quarantines and 2,013 in isolation wards.
