The coronavirus cases have been increasing in the Kathmandu Valley of late. On Monday, 54 people were tested positive for the coronavirus in the valley while the number was 30 on Sunday.

With the influx of people in the valley from outside districts, the coronavirus infection grew steadily.

Among total 180 tested positive to the virus across the country on Monday, 54 were from the Kathmandu Valley alone- 24 from Kathmandu, 20 from Lalitpur, and 10 from Bhaktpur districts. Among 54, seven persons are air service people including three pilots of Nepal Airlines Corporation.

It is said they contracted the virus while rescuing Nepalis from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

A spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population Dr. Gajeshwor Gautam informed that the COVID-19 testing coverage was upped in view of the growing cases in the valley. It suggests that community transmission has begun in the Kathmandu Valley.

Spokesperson Gautam further said the results of the swabs collected from seven other places of the valley were yet to come.

Even the health workers from Kapan, Changunarayan, and Harisiddhi have been infected, said Dr. Basudev Pande, Chief of Epidemiology and Infectious Disease Division of the Ministry.

Nepal has so far recorded 15,963 positive cases of coronavirus.
