Cops catch 4 smugglers with 16 kgs gold

KATHMANDU, MAY 17:

Police have recovered some 16 kgs of illegal gold from Jorpati in the capital that were illegally brought into the capital from Tatopani of Sindhupalchowk district on Thursday.

Four persons have also been arrested in connection with the illegal smuggling of the precious metal.

All the detainees—Namgel Sherpa (55), Sanu Sherpa (30), Sane Sherpa (26), and Sonam Sherpa (19)—hail from Tatopani-9 of the district and are currently residing in a rented flat in Jorpati.

Acting on a tip-off that the yellow metal was being brought to the capital from Tatopani, Nepal-China border, the police recovered the huge cache of gold concealed in the shoes of the racketeers and cracked the new modus operandi in gold smuggling.

Police said they are further investigating into the case.
