Cooperative to build 10 megawatt hydel project in Baglung
BAGLUNG, FEB 10:
A cooperative in Baglung district has come up with an ambitious plan for developing 10 megawatts hydropower project.
The Righa Manewa Daramkhola Hydropower Cooperative would build the project by incorporating six VDCs of Baglung and two of Gulmi districts. The cooperative founded two years ago with the sole purpose of constructing the hydel project has opened its office in Righa VDC of Baglung.
The cooperative is licensed to generate 10 megawatts power by the Department of Electricity Development from Daramkhola. Chairman of cooperative Ganga Bahadur Bhujel said the survey of the project would be completed within six months before starting the construction works.
The total cost of the project is estimated to stand Rs 2 billion. The project would incorporate the people from Righa, Pandawkhani, Sisakhani, Dagatundanda, Malma and Kadebas of Baglung and Arlangkot and Wami VDCs of Gulmi.
So far, 1,290 locals are the members of the cooperative. "Plans are afoot to collect more capital by increasing the number of shareholders," Bhujel said. The project has also bought 319 Ropani of land in Righa VDC for the project construction.
The cooperative has sought for supports from stakeholder and locals to materialize the project.
