Consumers protection policy- 2012 presented
KATHMANDU, OCT 8:
The Consumers Protection Policy-2012 has been formulated to ensure fair market and protection of consumers' rights.
General Secretary of the Consumers' Rights Protection Forum Nepal, Jyoti Baniya, presented the policy to the Department of Commerce and Supplies amidst a programme on Sunday.
The policy contains vivid aspects including existing basic principles for consumers, their rights, along with strategies, polices and action plans for market monitoring and ensuring consumer's rights.
The policy dwells on international and regional commitments on consumers' rights that Nepal has to implement.
The policy has focused on developing the culture of 'zero tolerance' to control black marketeering of goods and anti-consumer activities, and guaranteeing of the rights of consumers.
On the occasion, Chief Secretary Lilamani Poudel underlined the need of making emergency provisions to secure the rights of consumers and pledged to take an initiative to implement the policy to the earliest.
