Construction exposition slated to open Friday
KATHMANDU, DEC 04 -
CE Construction Nepa ConXpo 2014 is scheduled to kick off on Friday at Bhrikuti Mandap Exhibition Hall. Being held by the Federation of Contractors’ Associations of Nepal (FCAN) in association with Nepa Exhibitions and Equipment, the fair is in its third edition. Its aim is to promote the construction industry and inform the general public about the importance of development projects.
The five-day expo will contain 69 stalls of domestic and overseas firms dealing in construction materials and services of which 65 stalls have already been booked, the organisers said.
Among the international exhibitors, there will be seven stalls from India and two stalls from China. The organiser has arranged a separate pavilion consisting of six stalls for heavy equipment, three of which have been reserved.
The products on display will include construction and mining equipment, latest technology materials and services, pipes and fittings, cement, paint, solar thermal energy, water proofing, safety rescue and fire fighting. Engineers, interior designers, banks and insurance companies will also set up stalls at the expo.
“The exhibitors are planning to launch new products along with various schemes and offers during the expo,” said Ram Sharan Deuja, coordinator of the fair. He added that the event would be a platform to learn about products related to construction equipment.
“Many people basically don’t know about construction equipment like dozers, excavators and backhoe loaders, among others, so the general people will learn many things from the exhibition,” said Lamichhane. Senior engineers and “vaastu” experts will be providing free counselling services to visitors, he added.
Lamichhane said that the expo would help to revive the constriction sector which has been stagnating due to various hurdles from the government side.
“As the government hasn’t passed the budget on time, it has not published the tender notices for development projects. But we hope that this expo will create positive vibes among all the stakeholders,” said Deuja. According to him, the winter season is the peak time for the construction sector due to uninterrupted clear weather.
The organisers expect more than Rs 100 million worth of construction equipment and materials to be sold at the expo. They have estimated that 40,000 visitors including 25,000 business visitors will attend the fair. The price of an entrance ticket has been fixed at Rs 25. According to the organisers, 40 percent of the ticket proceeds will be spent on corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities.
