During the importation of maize across the country, farmers are struggling to protect their crops from monkeys. Even in the parliament, voices are being raised repeatedly about this terror of monkeys. There will be some relief for the farmers who are suffering from similar terror.

The government is going to pay compensation for damage to crops caused by monkeys. The government has implemented a new guideline 'Relief Distribution Guideline 2080 for Damage Caused by Wildlife' by expanding and increasing the amount of relief given to humanitarians and livestock farmers.

According to this directive, which has been in effect since Shrawan 1, a provision has been made to provide relief to crops damaged by monkeys and nilgai. Earlier, there was a provision to compensate for damage to human beings, structures, and crops due to 14 wild animals. Now it has been expanded to 16 animals.

The number of animals eligible for claiming compensation for crop damage has now been increased from 5 to 7. This time, monkeys and nilgai have also been added to that list. Ajay Karki, Deputy Director General of the National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Department, was quoted as saying that compensation has been arranged based on the complaints of farmers who have become victims of crop damage due to monkeys across the country.

What kind of damage caused by monkeys can be relieved?

In the case of minor injury, serious injury, or death due to monkey attack, all compensation will be given according to the provisions of the 'Relief Distribution Guideline 2080 for Damage caused by Wild Animals'. In other words, according to the bill, 20,000 compensation will be given to those injured by wild animal attacks on the recommendation of the health organization. In the case of serious injuries, an amount of up to 2 lakh rupees will be given, and in the case of expenses exceeding 2 lakh rupees, the government will provide the expenses of emergency treatment at any nearby hospital and then the entire expenses of treatment at the government hospital on the recommendation of the hospital doctor.

A lump sum of 5 lakh rupees is now going to be given to a person who is physically disabled for the rest of their life or their rightful person for earning a living. In the case of a deceased person, the next of kin will get Rs 10 lakh. If a person who is seriously injured and is being treated dies within 35 days after being discharged from the hospital, or if the person dies due to complications in the hospital, the beneficiary will also receive the relief amount due to the hospital expenses.

In the case of damage to the crops, the maximum amount will be 10,000.

Even if monkeys damage the crops, it is now possible to claim compensation. In case of crop damage, the guidelines stipulate that a claim can be made for a maximum of 10,000 rupees based on the assessment of one crop planted in one season and two crops in a year.

It is mentioned in the guidelines that in the case of crop insurance provided by the government, the crop loss relief will be provided only after deducting the amount received from the insurance. If wild animals, including monkeys, cause damage to crops planted on private land, relief can be sought.

How to apply?

According to the guidelines, an application can be made to the relevant office in the case of national parks, reserves, protected areas, or intermediate areas, and to the Division Forest Office in the case of other areas.

It is mentioned in the guidelines that relief money will be provided through the bank within one month after evaluating the application.
