Committee to appoint NOC MD
KATHMANDU:
Ministry of Commerce and Supplies has formed a three-member committee led by joint secretary at Finance Ministry Rajeev Gautam to develop standard and detailed Terms and Reference (ToR) to appoint managing director (MD) at Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC).
The committee has representatives from Ministry of Commerce and Supplies and Department of Commerce with a mandated to finalise selection criteria within 10 days, spokesperson at the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies Ganesh Prasad Dhakal said, adding that the ministry will publish the notice after receiving final report from the committee.
It is the first time the managing director at the corporation is being selected from open competition. The ministry is committed to execute the report of High Level Committee led by lawmaker Bhim Acharya that has clearly suggested the government to hire managing director from open competition, he said.
Similarly, the government has also pledged to recruit chiefs of all public enterprises through open competition. Recently, Finance Ministry had also directed the concerned line ministries to follow the method of open competition while recruiting executive chief of the public enterprises.
The ministry is optimist that the working performance will be enhanced if the managing director is recruited through open competition, Dhakal said. It will also reduce the charge of corruption at the time of recruitment.
The position of managing director at Nepal Oil Corporation has been vacated after the government dismissed the then managing director Digambar Jha from the post on August 12.
Jha was appointed executive director of NOC in 2007.
