Committee mulled for Gandak Project

KATHMANDU:
The seventh meeting of the Joint Committee on Koshi and Gandak Projects (JCKGP) has decided to form a sub-committee to make recommendations on the outstanding issues with respect to the Gandak Project.
The meeting that was held in Kathmandu, on November 11 and 12, had discussed various issues of mutual interest. Both sides also deliberated on the issues of erosion of embankment areas upstream as well as downstream of the Koshi Barrage and the flooding and inundation of the areas around the Gandak Project, according to a press release issued by the Indian Embassy in Nepal.
The Nepali team was led by Madhav Belbase, director general of the Department of Irrigation (DoI) and the Indian side by Shri Dipak
Kumar Singh, secretary, Water Resources Department, Government of Bihar, India. The committee emphasised on holding meetings more regularly. The next meeting of the committee is slated for April-May, 2015.
