Commission directs to reveal VAT evaders name

National Information Commission today directed Finance Ministry to provide the detail information of VAT evaders’ within three days or furnish appropriate justifications asking why it should not publish VAT evaders’ list.
Freedom Forum had filed a case in the finance ministry appealing it to provide the details of VAT fraud scam.
However, the forum could not get the information even after the protection and knocked the door of commission, chairperson of Freedom Forum Taranath Dahal said.
After it could not get the details of VAT evaders from the Finance Ministry, the forum moved to National Information Commission for the information of VAT fraud scam.
“Freedom Forum asked for the detail information from Finance Ministry including name list of all VAT evaders under the existing Right to Information Act, Dahal said.
No existing law and legal provisions can save VAT defaulters, according to him.
“They are indeed criminals not tax payers,” he said, adding that they have committed the financial crime. “Income Tax Act basically deals with taxpayers,” he said, adding that creating fake VAT bills does not fall under the Income Tax Act. “It is not fair to protect the criminals through the Income Tax Act,” he said, adding that it’s people’s right to information.
People must know the names of criminals, who have committed financial crime by threatening country’s revenue policy under the right to information, Dahal added.
