CNI president drags bureaucracy in VAT evasion
KATHMANDU, June 14:
Private sector dragged bureaucracy in the value added tax (VAT) evasion.
“Bureaucrats are equally responsible for the evasion,” said president of Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) Binod Kumar Chaudhary in an interaction here today. The entrepreneurs might be responsible but how could they be blamed after seven years, he said, adding that it should not be generalised. “All entrepreneurs should not be put into one basket,” he said.
The government has terrorised the private sector in the name of tax evasion and anti-money laundering law, according to Chaudhary, who also a CA from the ruling party. “There is no other country in world that has included tax irregularities in anti-money laundering. It is planned attack against the private sector.”
Current economic crisis is not the result of irregularities of private sector but due to irresponsible government, he opined.
There has been delayed budget for last three years and government is unable to spend development budget, apart from foreign aid, he said, adding that the government has not given importance to economy.
He suggested to give priority to economic growth by taking private sector into confidence.
