Civil Trade Centre officially opens at Sundhara

KATHMANDU, JAN 19 -
The Civil Group, one of the country’s prominent real estate developers, has officially opened the Civil Trade Centre at Sundhara, Kathmandu. The cost of the complex, which consists of retail stores, offices, cinema halls, restaurants and a helipad, is claimed to be Rs 2.5 billion.
Addressing a programme on Friday, Civil Group chairman Ichchha Raj Tamang said the trade centre offered a shopping destination and other facilities of international standard.
The nine-storey trade centre is spread over six ropanis of land. It has 240 retail shops on the lower four floors. They sell clothes, fancy items, jewellery and children’s items, among others. Similarly, there are 190 offices on its fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth floors. According to the company, most of the rental space has already been booked.
The luxury mall has claimed it offers world class dining experiences including cine dining, sky dining and theme dining. In addition to retail stores and office space, the multiplex building features two cinema halls on the seventh and eighth floors. Viewers can enjoy dining inside the cinema halls. According to the Civil Group, the theatres will be fitted with advanced sound system and other equipment imported from the US.
The business complex also features a roof top restaurant and a revolving restaurant where diners can enjoy delicacies along with panoramic views of the valley. According to the company, the restaurants will offer most of the alcoholic beverages produced around the world. The trade centre also has a helipad on the roof.
The Civil Trade Centre is claimed to be built with safety measures against earthquakes. “The building is termite-free and seismic-resistant. Moreover, we have adopted other minimum safety measures,” said Tamang.
Suraj Vaidya, president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, said that opening such shopping malls could help promote trade in the country. He urged the government to endorse the minimum economic agenda submitted by the federation.
According to the company, monthly rental charges for retail shops range from Rs 80 to Rs 185 per sq ft while the rent for office space and restaurants is Rs 47 to Rs 77 per sq ft. The mall offers ample space for parking in its two-storey basement. According to the company, the parking lot can accommodate 200 motorcycles and 200 cars at a time. The centre claims to be providing jobs to 2,000 people.
