CIAA directs govt to appoint NOC MD through open competition
KATHMANDU:
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority instructed the government to appoint a competent person as managing director of Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) through an open and transparent process.
The anti-graft body issued the instruction to the chief secretary, secretary of Ministry of Commerce and Supplies and the board of the state oil monopoly after rumours that aspirants for the post are approaching the commerce and supplies minister to bag the post.
The top executive post at the Nepal Oil Corporation has remained vacant after the government decided to oust its previous managing director Digambar Jha, only 20 days before his tenure was coming to end. It seems the decision of anti graft body will help government to implement its commitment which was expressed in the budget speech for the current fiscal year. The government has pledged to appoint the chief executive officer or general manager of public enterprises through open competition in its budget.
"CEO or GM of Public Enterprises will be selected through an open competition considering their capacity, academic qualification and their proposal to reform concerned entities," the budget speech stated, adding that performance contracts will be signed with them after their selection through open competition.
