CIAA books 12 persons in land fraud case

KATHMANDU:

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority today filed a corruption case at the Special Court against twelve persons, including six government officials and other associates for fake registration of land by forging documents of the rightful land owners.

They were prosecuted for registering land bearing plot no 39, 93 of ward no 2 and plot no 161 of ward no 5 of Bhimphedi VDC in the name of other individuals.

Issuing a press release, Shreedhar Sapkota, Spokesperson for the CIAA, stated that they were found guilty of registering land amounting to Rs 5 million by forging citizenship certificates of the actual owners.

The CIAA prosecuted former officials of Land Revenue Office, Makawanpur, Ram Krishna Shrestha, Shivaraj Paudel, Ramhari Dhakal, Bishnu Adhikari, Shyam Pokhrel and Bhimphedi VDC Secretary Tirthalal Ghishing and demanded jail sentence of up to two years for them as per Section 9 and 11 of the Corruption Prevention Act, 2002.

The CIAA sought return of the land and fine on the arrestees.

The anti-graft body also prosecuted Kumar Shrestha, Lila Bahadur Shrestha, Rajendra Dhakal, Diwakar Aryal, Shekhar Ghimire and Parbat Bartaula for assisting the land revenue officials to execute the crime. The CIAA has demanded two years jail sentence and a fine equal to the loss as per Section 8 (4) of the Act.
