KATHMANDU, AUG 15 -

Finance Minister Shankar Koirala on Wednesday directed the finance secretary to complete signing performance contracts with the chiefs of different departments and projects chiefs under the Finance Ministry by Aug 23.

The government had announced with the budget presentation that the department and project chiefs under all the ministries would be required to sign performance contracts which would make them responsible for the results achieved by their department.

Pursuant to this policy, Koirala told the officials under the Finance Ministry at a meeting of the ministry-level development problems solution committee to show the results of the projects as authorization and programme approval have already been done for most of the programmes.

On the occasion, Finance Secretary Shanta Raj Subedi directed the departmental heads to complete the assigned tasks within the deadline.

Joint Secretary at the National Planning Commission (NPC) Tirtha Dhakal stressed the need to avoid duplication of efforts as both the NPC and the Finance Ministry were monitoring various programmes and projects.

Similarly, NPC Joint Secretary Puspa Lal Shakya said that it would be better to give similar tasks to one government agency instead of several agencies.
