Changing trends in advertising market
KATHMANDU, May 28:
The trend in Nepali advertising market is slowly taking a change.
“There has been a noticeable change in the way international brands doing advertisements for Nepali market, lately,” president for Advertising Association of Nepal (AAN) Raj Kumar Bhattarai.
In the past, most international brands were being dubbed or adapted by the Nepali agencies but now the advertisements for international brands are being not only done over in the local language but also using local idols.
“They have been advertising with known personalities creating an association with the product being advertised,” he said, adding that international brands like Real Juice, Parachute, Asian Paints are doing campaigns specific to Nepal, which is a positive step towards the growth in the sector.
The sector is slowly merging with international products and creating adverts suited for locals, according to him. “This, in turn, shows the increase in quality and progress.”
Even though the advertising sector in Nepal has a long time to go before standing at par with international advertising market scene, it has shown a gradual growth as far as creativity and quality is concerned.
“There has been a rise in the advertising trend even though it isn’t as fast as we want it to be,” Bhattarai said, adding that many have branched out into various modes of advertising like digital display, web advertising and e-posters that show a strong rise in the trend.
However, Nepal will take a long time to reach international standards with one step at a time, with a conducive environment for growth the sector will definitely grow, according to the Advertising Association of Nepal. People are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of advertising and it has made the sector expand a great deal. “The trend of new Television Commercials used to be only targetted for Dashain and Tihar but now the market for TVC’s has also changed,” said media directorfor at the Thompson Nepal Nabin Lal Joshi.
From airports to cinema halls e-boards can be seen around the valley displaying adverts. “This in itself is a trend as well as a growth in the advertising sector,” Joshi added.
The advertising industry has seen a growth of fifty per cent in the past five years, but it still has a long way to go. “Lack of manufacturing industries and political instability are the root causes of current slow down in growth of the sector,” Bhattarai opined, adding that people are slowly beginning to understand the importance and concept of advertising.
