CG opening industrial villages in Bardiya, Sunsari

KATHMANDU, Jan 22: Nepal´s leading business conglomerate Chaudhary Group (CG) is opening two industrial villages in Bardiya and Sunsari projects. The group has made initial investment of Rs 2 billion in the projects.

CG has already acquired 13 hectares of land in Belawa of Bardiya and another 13 hectares in Itahari of Sunsari. It has already begun to set up plans and other structures at Belawa. CG has announced to open production units of Wai-Wai instant noodles and other beverages in the soon-to-be-opened clusters.

At present, Wai-Wai is being manufactured from five production units - four in Chaudhary Udhyog Gram (CUG) of Rajahar in Nawalparasi and one in Bhaisepati of Lalitpur. CG has been producing around 40,000 cartons (3o units) of Wai-Wai instant noodles everyday.

Binod Kumar Chaudhary, president of CG, said the concept of Chaudhary Udhyog Gram will be replicated in the proposed industrial clusters. “I was encouraged to set up new industrial clusters in eastern and western parts of the country after witnessing the positive impacts brought by the Chaudhary Udhyog Gram in local community of Nawalparasi,” said Chaudhary.

Chaudhary Udhyog Gram in Nawalparasi has 17 factories that employ more than 1,600 people, mostly locals. Along with food and beverages manufacturing units, CG plans to open bio-tech plants the industrial cluster at Bardiya.

Meanwhile, CG is investing Rs 10 billion on cement plants in Dumkibas of Nawalparasi and Palpa. CG brand of cement produced in Dumkibas-based plant has already hit the market. The factory produces 1,300 tons of cement a day.

Similarly, CG is setting up both clinker and cement plants in Palpa. It is investing Rs 7.5 billion in the Palpa plants. The plants will produce 1,900 tons each of cement and clinker.
CG is also making its foray into the telecommunication sector.

The group is investing Rs 10 billion to form a joint venture with an international telecom operator.

Officials of CG, however, refused to disclose name of the global telecom partner.
