The 20th CAN InfoTech 2014, a mega event on information and communication technology, concluded on Tuesday on a high note, attracting more than 335,000 visitors. The six-day event, organised by Computer Association of Nepal ( CAN ), was also visited by Chairman of the interim election government Khil Raj Regmi, Vice President Parmanad Jha, former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and various other politicians and bureaucrats.

CAN General Secretary Amrit Kumar Pant said they were excited by the response from visitors and exhibitors. “The flow of visitors energised,” he said.

Laptops, tablets, smartphones and internet service providers were the major crowd pullers as they came up with the latest products and services with discounts and offers. There were 221 stalls from 119 companies exhibiting hardware sales and maintenance, power solutions, mobile accessories, internet service providers, telecommunications, ICT colleges and training institutes, software solutions and payment solutions, among others.

The event also hosted a two-day ICT conference on “Mobile Technology for Smart Society”. IT experts from different countries presented papers on m-governance, m-commerce and payment, m-banking and m-education, among others. The conference also discussed the role of mobile technology in social change.

The exhibitors also said the event was fruitful. “The fair was successful in terms of branding, promotion and sales as we got the opportunity to directly interact with customers.” said Bhupal Chhetri, sales manager of Pashupati Trade Link, authorised distributor of Micromax.

Sangeet Basnet, marketing manager of Allied Continental, authorised distributor of Karbonn mobiles, said the company’s stall witnessed a large number of visitors. “The crowd was so much that we were not able to manage them,” he said.

Sabin KC, an engineering student and a visitor, said the event helped him know about the latest inventions. “As an engineering student, I always want to know about the latest products of IT,” he said. The CAN also announced that it will be organise the InfoTech in Pokhara in association with its Pokhara branch from February 19.
