Call to build public-private trust for economic prosperity

KATHMANDU, Jan 15:

Government officials and private sector representatives have underlined the need for consensus to build the trust between public and private sector for Nepal´s economic prosperity.

Speaking at a panel discussion organized on the occasion of World Economic Forum in Davos, Swarnim Wagel, member of National Planning Commission, said there is hostility and antagonism between public and private sectors. “The present rhetoric should end with public and private sectors appreciating the important roles played by each other,” he added.

The panel discussion was organized by Global Shapers Kathmandu Hub.

Pradeep Kumar Shrestha, managing director of Panchakanya Group, said: “Nepal is a landlocked country, but not a mind-locked country.”

Similarly, Birendra Bahadur Deuja, executive chairman of Institute of Local Governance Studies, emphasized on political stability for making a successful public private partnerships.
About 200 participants, including representatives of the public and private sector, attended the discussions.

The Global Shapers Kathmandu Hub started in 2011. It has got young professionals and leaders from various fields ranging from social entrepreneurship to media, business to development sector and art to technology, according to a statement issued on Wednesday.
