CA term will not be extended‚ PM tells fringe parties

KATHMANDU, MAR 25: 

Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai today told the leaders of fringe parties that the term of the Constituent Assembly would not be extended.

During a meeting with leaders of fringe parties Prime Minister Bhattarai requested them to help him complete the twin tasks of the peace process and constitution drafting within the stipulated time. 

Around a dozen fringe parties had met the PM to hand over a memorandum demanding that the twin tasks of peace and constitution should be guaranteed.

However, leaders of fringe parties had blamed the three major parties of prolonging the tasks and have fighting among themselves for power. 

The fringe parties have demanded that the peace and constitution drafting processes should be completed within the stipulated time frame by forming a national consensus government to institutionalise the achievements of the latest People’s Movement.

Following the meeting, senior leader of the CPN-United Lok Narayan Subedi said the fringe parties have urged the government to complete the twin tasks on time. He said they were concerned by the activities of the three major parties as they have been leading the nation towards confusion instead of contributing to the major tasks.

According to Ram Rijan Yadav, press adviser of the Prime Minister, the prime minister informed the delegation of small parties that the term of the Constituent Assembly would not be extended and that the peace process would take its final shape within a couple of days as the political parties are close to agreement.
