Budget promises more programmes

Though the budget for the current fiscal year has promised a lots of programmes for the tourism sector, the government has earmarked very less budget for them.
“The budget has allocated about Rs 1.22 billion Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, which is not enough for the completion of plans and programmes in pipe line,” said secretary at the ministry Dr Ganesh Raj Joshi. “The ministry needs around Rs 3 billion to Rs 4 billion to complete all the programmes in pipeline,” he said, adding that last fiscal year, the ministry was allocated around Rs 1.12 billion budget.
He however,. appreciated the budget for giving priority to the tourism sector. But the ministry has been allocated very less budget to achieve all the programmes forcing us to priorities among the programmes.
The government has directed the budget towards preparing Tourism Master Plan for developing necessary infrastructures. “We are soon going to prepare a visionary programme for Tourism Master Plan,” Joshi said. “The government has developed plans and programme with an aim to promote and establish Nepal as a model tourism country of the world within 15 years and tourism a strong backbone of the national economy.” Development of the exotic places like Shey- phoksundo, Rara, Ramaroshan and Badimalika, feasibility study of multidimensional tourist route connecting Rara, Sinja, Pupal, Dhorpatan Sisne, Jaljala area are some of the programmes the government is planning to carry out. Similarly, it has also planned to start new trekking routes in Annapurna and Manaslu area, apart from upgradation of various airports.
