On Saturday evening, British and French air forces carried out a joint operation targeting a suspected underground arms storage facility in Syria previously used by the Islamic State (IS) group, the British Defense Ministry reported.
According to a statement released by the ministry, Royal Air Force aircraft identified the facility in the mountains north of the ancient site of Palmyra. The site was believed to store weapons and explosives.
The British forces employed Paveway IV guided bombs to strike multiple access tunnels leading to the facility. Early reports indicate that the operation successfully engaged the target.
The ministry emphasized that the area surrounding the facility is devoid of civilian habitation, and there is no evidence of any threat to civilians from the airstrike.
