A notable progress has been achieved in the construction of the Tanahu Hydropower Project, a pivotal undertaking aimed at bolstering Nepal's energy infrastructure. The project, boasting a capacity of 140 megawatts, reached a momentous milestone as the excavation of the main tunnel, designated to harness the waters of the Seti River, was successfully completed. This feat was commemorated with a ceremonial detonation of explosives by Energy Secretary Gopal Prasad Sigdel and Nepal Electricity Authority Executive Director Kulman Ghising.

Spanning an impressive 1,493 meters, the newly excavated tunnel will soon undergo the meticulous process of concrete lining. Upon completion, it will facilitate the passage of water alongside a 213-meter penstock pipe, ultimately driving turbines within an underground power facility to generate electricity.

Secretary Sigdel lauded the commendable progress of the project during the breakthrough ceremony, stressing the importance of adhering to timelines for the timely completion of the main dam. Executive Director Ghising echoed these sentiments, underscoring the project's pivotal role in mitigating electricity shortages during dry seasons. Additionally, Ghising unveiled plans for the Lower Seti Hydropower Project.

The overall advancement of the Tanahu Hydropower Project, segmented into three construction packages, currently stands at an impressive 54%, signaling a significant stride towards its ultimate realization.
