BPC hikes Andhikhola project cost by 3 times to upgrade it by 4.4 MW

Butwal Power Company Limited (BPC) has raised the cost of Andhikhola hydropower project by three times while upgrading its capacity.

Though per megawatt expense of a project should be Rs 18 crore and upgradation of the capacity should cost half that amount, BPC is spending 1 arba and 20 crore to upgrade the 5 megawatt project by additional 4.4 megawatt.

In other words, BPC is unnecessarily hiking the project price by around Rs 75 crore, according to the sources privy of the development.

This is a bit worrisome since projects developed by private power developers are usually cost effective, according to water resources expert.
