Biratnagar stocks up on imported fuel

BIRATNAGAR, May 29: 

A total of 45 tankers of petrol and diesel have been imported in the eastern region so as not to allow shortage of petroleum products in the region during the bandh called by different ethnic and political parties.

The tankers, which were stationed at Jogbani border due to bandh, were brought in with special security escort of police.

According to Engineer of the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC), Eastern Regional Office, Birendra Mishra, the tankers with petroleum products were imported on Sunday and Monday after the meeting held between petroleum entrepreneurs and the local administration decided to bring in the petroleum products.

The imported petroleum products were distributed to pumps, he added.

Mishra further said that now there was no less stock of petrol and diesel at the eastern depot of NOC and pumps are distributing the petroleum products as per the demand.

Of the tankers of the petroleum products, 22 tankers were of petrol and 23 of diesel. A tanker contains 20,000 liters of petroleum product.

Locals, who were compelled to go to bordering pumps for diesel and petrol, have been purchasing petroleum products easily from local pumps.

Meanwhile, the Brihat Madhesi Morcha (BMM) shut down markets, factories and transport services today also putting forth different demands.
