A 1.7-km-long 132 kV transmission line will be constructed to integrate the 46.8 MW of electricity generated by the national pride Bheri-Babai Diversion Multipurpose Project into the national grid via the Kohalpur–Surkhet transmission line.

The proposed route will require nine transmission towers three within the core area of Bardiya National Park and six within its buffer zone affecting Bheri Ganga Municipality-5 in Surkhet as well as parts of the national park.

According to Information Officer Hari Bahadur Thapa, the project has so far achieved 70 percent physical progress and 57 percent financial progress. The tunnel component has been completed, while civil, hydro-mechanical, and electro-mechanical works are still underway. He added that the project is expected to be completed within the next three years.

In light of the remaining timeline, Energy Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha recently conducted an on-site inspection of the project and directed authorities to accelerate the pace of construction.
